Specialist Deafblind Worker managing the North East.

Marie is DBE’s Specialist Deafblind Worker managing our North East services, mainly in Newcastle, North Tyneside and surrounding areas. At our national annual Rally in October 2024, Marie received her 10 year award for working with deafblind people. Prior to DBE, Marie had many years’ experience working with and for Deaf people gaining Level 6 BSL qualification. After training Marie as a Communicator-Guide at DBE, she worked tirelessly with Thomas Lafferty, John Smith, Sharon Hutton and others. Becoming a qualified Specialist Assessor and Deafblind Interpreter Guide, she is able to make a real difference to the lives of deafblind people on a regular basis. Marie manages our Deafblind Interpreter Guide/Communicator-Guide contract with Newcastle Hospitals, also working closely with social care professionals and local Deaf and Blind Voluntary organisations to meet the needs of deafblind people locally
